Lawn & Garden
I'd
like to kill weeds in my yard without hurting the grass. What product should
I use?
Trimec® Lawn Weed Killer is a great all-around herbicide and will not harm most lawns as long as it is used as directed. It works best in temperatures between 60 and 90 degrees and should be applied in the spring while weeds are young and actively growing. Don't wait too long or weeds will mature and "harden off" - making them much more difficult to kill.
What if I have crabgrass, nutsedge or sandbur? Trimec® doesn't control grassy weeds.
Trimec does not control grassy weeds - but Trimec Plus controls broadleaf weeds and grassy weeds such as crabgrass, yellow nutsedge, goosegrass and sandbur.
The [clover, ground ivy or Creeping Charlie] is taking over and nothing seems to help! What can I do?
SpeedZone® Lawn Weed Killer provides the best control of hard-to-kill weeds. Check out this before/after picture of SpeedZone's effect on white clover!
But remember, start early when the weeds are actively growing and be prepared to make a second application in a few weeks if the infestation is especially heavy.
When can I let pets and people back on a lawn I've sprayed with herbicide?
All herbicide treated lawns should be allowed to completely dry before allowing pets or people to re-enter.
If I'm going to treat my lawn with a herbicide, when should I mow?
For best results, don't cut your lawn for 2 days before or 2 days after herbicide application.
What should I do if I've accidentally sprayed flowers, ornamental plants, etc. with herbicide?
Quickly and thoroughly rinse plants where contact occurred.
If I've spread Bug-No-MoreŽ Lawn Insect Granules on my lawn, what else do I need to do?
Water granules in with at least ¼" of water for best results.
I sprayed my weeds - and it rained. Now what?
If it's been over 24 hours, there's no need to reapply any of our weeds control products. Some products are rain-fast in less time, though, so check the label of the product you used to determine if you need to reapply. Wait and see if you are getting results before you retreat your lawn.
I just want to spot treat a few weeds in my lawn - what can I use?
SpeedZone® Lawn Weed Killer in the ready-to-use (RTU) gallon or quart will give visual results on most broadleaf weeds in just hours.
What do the three numbers on fertilizers mean?
That 10-10-10 on the bag or bottle is best explained by remembering "up, down, all-around". The first number is the percentage of nitrogen by weight. Nitrogen promotes growth and green-up. The second number is the percentage of phosphorus by weight and is helpful for good root growth. The third number is the percentage of potassium by weight which promotes all-around plant health such as hardiness and disease resistance.
Gordon's currently has 3 liquid fertilizers and a granular weed and feed. Triple 10 is a 10-10-10 that helps when you are establishing your lawn. Liquid Lawn and Pasture is a 20-0-0 that provides quick green-up and contains no phosphorus. Liquid Lawn & Pasture can be used in areas that restrict the use of phosphorus in fertilizer. Jump Shot® Plant Starter 3-10-3 is a perfect plant starter and great for transplants. Trimec® Weed and Feed is a 24-4-8 that fertilizes and provides broadleaf weed control in one step.
I saw a bottle of Pronto® Weed and Grass Killer next to the RoundUp® in the local hardware store. What's the difference?
Each formula is slightly different but the major active ingredient in both products is glyphosate so both are recommended for the same uses. The biggest difference is often price. A word of warning about all glyphosate products: they are meant to kill weeds and grasses - and they may kill any plant nearby. Do not use Glyphosate products for spot weed control in lawns or around any plants you want to keep!
Where can I get Gordon's products?
Gordon's and Gordon's Farm products are most often found in nurseries, farm and ranch retailers and hardware stores. The Dealer Locator on the top left side of this page can help. If a dealer is not available within a close proximity of your zip code a list of online retailers will appear.

What's the
difference between LV 400 and Amine 400 and which should I use?
LV 400 is a 2,4-D weed control product that is an ester, or oil-based formula. LV 400 provides great control of weeds in a variety of areas including pastures, some crops and lawns. LV 400 is the preferred product when air temperatures are below 60°, when it's dry, if you're using very hard water or if you're attempting to kill brush or plants with milky sap. Amine 400 is a water-based 2,4-D weed control product that is also used for control of weeds in pastures, some crops, lawns and more. Amine 400 is usually more economical and can be used when temperatures are 60° or above and soil temperatures are 55° or more at the time of application. It's excellent for mixing with other water based products, such as Liquid Lawn & Pasture.

What's the difference between Horse & Pony Spray and Horse & Stable Spray?
Horse & Stable Spray is a water based product labeled for horses, ponies, dogs, cats and the areas they frequent (see label for specific directions). It has a little water-drop on the label to help you remember that it's water-based. Horse & Stable Spray provides effective protection against many flies and other insects. It will need to be reapplied more often than Horse & Pony Spray, which is an oil-based product. Horse & Pony Spray is best for horses and ponies that are pastured. It only requires a small amount and will leave a slightly oily sheen but it will last longer than a water-based product. The new, gentler formula of Horse & Pony Spray also contains a sunscreen. Always use caution when applying oil-based insecticides to animals that are in full sun (with no access to shade) or if they are exercising vigorously.
Are PondMaster® Products safe for birds, fish and other animals?
If you follow the label directions, all PondMaster products except PondMaster Copper Sulfate Crystals are approved for use in ponds and lakes used for watering, fishing or swimming.
What's a Spreader-Sticker? Do I need one?
Spreader-Sticker is a surfactant. Surfactants help pesticides stick and more completely cover vegetation and allow them to work better. Many Gordon's and Gordon's Farm products already contain surfactant, so using Spreader-Sticker is sometimes simply a personal preference.

What's the right product to use for vegetation control?
Vegetation Killer liquid and granules are for season-long control of all weeds and grasses; however, vegetation killers can leach into the soil so they are not recommended for use near desireable plants and trees. If you need weed and grass control under trees, near gardens or flowerbeds, use glyphosate-based products such as Pronto® Weed & Grass Killer instead.
I need to kill brush. When's the best time?
If you are using foliar application, the plant should be fully leafed out and they should not have changed color (for fall). If you're using All-Season Brush-No-More®, consult the label for brush control directions in any season.
What's the best product to use for pond weed control?
If the weeds are growing on the ground at the shore or are above the waterline, use PondMaster® Surface & Shoreline Herbicide. For submerged weeds, use PondMaster Aquatic Herbicide. PondMaster Blue is a colorant that will also help control aquatic weeds by restricting the wavelength of sunlight penetrating the water.
