PBI-Gordon Issues 2(ee) Spring Dead Spot Recommendations for Kabuto® Fungicide SC

For Immediate Release
August 16, 2018

PBI-Gordon Corporation recently issued Section 2(ee) recommendations for use of Kabuto® Fungicide SC in the treatment of Spring dead spot (SDS) in warm-season turfgrass.

This additional use recommendation is permitted under Section 2(ee) of the Federal Insecticide, Fungicide and Rodenticide Act (FIFRA) in the following states but has not been submitted or approved by the EPA: Alabama, Arkansas, Arizona, California, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Missouri, Mississippi, North Carolina, New Mexico, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, and West Virginia.

The Section 2(ee) recommendations can be downloaded here for various states, and here for Texas. The applicator must have a copy of the recommendation present when treating for SDS.

Labeled for use on golf courses, sports fields, and residential and commercial turf, Kabuto is a proprietary formulation for the preventative control of SDS, and the preventative and curative control of dollar spot (including control of carboxamide resistant dollar spot).

SDS appears in circular patches that remain dormant as the bermudagrass comes out of winter dormancy. The turf in these patches eventually collapses to the ground, leaving sunken areas in the turf that severely detract from its uniformity and playability. Kabuto inhibits all stages of development in the fungal lifecycle of SDS, and can be applied up to eight times per year as part of a resistance management program.

"The Section 2(ee) recommendation highlights how Kabuto can be used to battle SDS, the most severe disease for warm-season turfgrasses such as bermudagrass," said Jim Goodrich, fungicide product manager for PBI-Gordon. "Extensive university and end-user testing has repeatedly shown that Kabuto outperforms competitive products in the effective treatment of SDS."

Other features of Kabuto include:

  • A flowable (suspension concentrate) formulation
  • Highly effective at low and high use rates
  • No phytotoxicity concerns
  • FRAC Group 7
